snow day 2009

Posted by ladybug on March 26th, 2009

so the weather here in VA has been kinda nuts lately.  we got a ton of snow a few weeks back, sandwiched between some really nice days in the 70s and 80s.  it has been a little more consistent since the beginning of the month, but we’re ready for spring around here.

so yeah, we got a lot of snow, and it was bug’s first snow!  she HAD A BLAST!!  so let me give you an idea of what a lot of snow is to us here in richmond, va.

nine inches!  yes, that is a lot for around here.  considering we haven’t really had a good snow in 2 or 3 years, this was major.  and we were excited.  especially ladybug.

she wasn’t really sure what to think of it.  the night it started snowing and sticking to the ground it was the most wonderful thing she had ever experienced.  she ran and frolicked (yes, i said frolicked) about the backyard and had a great time enjoying this “cold stuff” that was falling and sticking to the ground.  she had never seen anything quite like it before.

but then it didn’t stop snowing, and it didn’t stop snowing, and it didn’t stop snowing until we had about nine inches on the ground.  it came up to the dog’s barrel-like chest, she was plowing through the snow as she played.  she had so much fun, it was like a little kid.  she was just tearin’ ass around the backyard, stickin’ her face down in it, chasing snowballs. . . it was great.  here’s some pics:

and this one is great, she’s ready to come in i think:

and do you notice the raincoat? (i’m sure you do)  i have come around on the raincoat.  it actually is a great thing to put on her when there is precipitation falling from the sky.  it keeps her back dry and therefore she doesn’t stink as bad.  so yes, as silly as i initially thought the raincoat to be, it has proven quite  useful.  and it looks very cute.  haha

rainy days are the worst

Posted by ladybug on February 18th, 2009

actually, cold rainy days are the worst.  today isn’t a holiday barn day, she just went on monday, but the dog is bored as all hell.  and her gas is terrible this morning.  she’s in here layin’ on the futon stinkin’ up the place.

i feel kinda bad for her.  if it weren’t so cold and wet we would be going for a nice walk today, unfortunately that won’t be happening unless this rain goes away.  i woke up this morning and it was snowing like crazy, but that turned to rain and now it’s just crappy.

yesterday didn’t rain at all so the dog got to spend some time out in the backyard when i wasn’t at class or at work.  when i went to go let her in she looked like casper the friendly ghost, completely covered in dust.  what a pain in the ass.  there is a section of my backyard by the back fence where the grass doesn’t grow and the dirt there is just dusty.  well, that is one of her favorite places to lay.  i think yesterday she was doing backstrokes in it though cause she was completely covered with dusty dirt.  i did my best to get it off of her before letting her in, but i didn’t get it all.  everytime i would pet her that evening/night my  hand would feel all dusty.

the joys of owning a pet.

nah, the pleasures definitely outweigh the burdens and that dog knows we would do anything for her.  sometimes tht is the problem though, she’s spoiled.  she knows we would do anything for her so she feels entitled to whatever she wants.  it doesn’t always work that way, but she doesn’t get it.

ladybug and i watch history being made

Posted by ladybug on January 20th, 2009

today ladybug and i sat together on this monumental day in our country’s rich history.

barack obama was sworn in as the 44th president of the united states of america and we should all take a moment to reflect on the historical nature of today’s inauguration.

bug wasn’t as interested in the cnn coverage as i was, she mostly brought me her rope and other toys to throw down the hall for her, but i feel like that was her way of celebrating this event.

my wife wasn’t here hangin’ out with us today, she is down in hampton watching our nephews and niece so my brother in law and his wife could go to dc for the festivities.  she’s been there since saturday and i think she’s ready to come home now.  bug and i made the trip down to hampton this weekend to see her and the kids, as well as my mom.  ladybug was good with the kids, but didn’t like sharing her attention with the baby.  haha.  what a jealous little chick.

i sit here and prepare for bowling and in many ways i’m still overwhelmed with what is going on in our nation’s capital today.  i haven’t turned the channel from cnn since earlier this morning.  i’m sure when i get home it will be more of the same.

*raises glass*  here’s to this historic occasion, it is truly amazing to me that we have a black president.  we are living through and witnessing history being made, and that is very exciting.

God bless america.

bug got a rain slicker for Christmas

Posted by ladybug on January 5th, 2009

yes,  you read that right.  my wife has been talkin’ about getting bug a raincoat for so long that my mother finally went out and got her one.  surprisingly enough she didn’t protest too much when we put it on her.

http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q116/kwsport12/dec08078.jpg

i’m not really sure the point of the whole thing.  it’s not like we’re gonna take the time to put it on her every time we let her out when it’s raining.  i guess it looks cute though.

http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q116/kwsport12/dec08079.jpg

the holidays were nice.  ladybug had a good time being in the middle of everything going on.  me, my wife, my brother and his girlfriend all went down to my mom’s for Christmas.  bug was never at a loss of someone to pet her or give her attention, and she was quite happy about that.

we did leave her at home with mom for a night while we went down to visit my dad.  she literally got pissed at us and peed on the floor right after we left to show that she disapproved of us leaving without her.  what a little brat.

bug had a happy holiday season though.  she got presents from my brother and his girlfriend, my mother, my mother-in-law, and from us of course.  she’s so rotten.

and now here’s a pic that has nothing to do with this post at all, but it’s just so damn cute i can’t stand it.  this is my niece amaya cuddling with ladybug on our couch.
